St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is the most northern city in the world with a population of more than one million people. Among the cities completely located in Europe, St. Petersburg is the third most populous, and also the first city in terms of population, not the capital.

St. Petersburg – the most important economic, scientific and cultural center of Russia, a major transport hub. The historical center of St. Petersburg and its associated monuments are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List; this is one of the most important tourism centers in the country. Among the most significant cultural and tourist sites are the Hermitage, the Kunstkamera, the Mariinsky Theater, the Russian National Library, the Russian Museum, the Peter and Paul Fortress, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Nevsky Prospekt. The preservation and development of the historical center of St. Petersburg is aimed at preserving cultural heritage sites.

St.Petersburg Mining University

St.Petersburg Mining University is the first technical educational institution in Russia, it was established by order of Catherine II on 21 October, (1 November), 1773, the University brought to life Peter’s the First and M.V. Lomonosov’s ideas about training mining engineers. The date has become the birthday of the whole higher technical education in Russia.

Nowadays, more than 12 thousand students are studying mining, oil and gas, machine building, energy engineering, economics, safety measures, geo-ecology. The Mining University trains bachelors, masters and specialists (engineers) according to 32 programmes. More than 180 doctors of sciences, professors, about 600 candidates of sciences and associate professors, about 120 academicians and correspondent members of different international and Russian academies are working at 49 departments and branches of the University.

Specialists for such companies as “PHOSAGRO”, “NOVATEK”, “Gazprom Neft”, “Surgutneftegas”, “Total”, “Verbundnetz Gas”, “Russian Copper Company”, “Metal Group”, “Uralkali”, “Norilsk Nickel”, “Alrosa”, “Lukoil”, “BP” are trained in the Mining University.

The Mining University possesses the highest governmental status of the educational system of Russia, represents the particularly valuable cultural heritage site, and has been given four government awards.  In October 2009, the Mining University was assigned a category of the “National Research University”.

The Mining University performs intensive research in the development of the country’s raw material resources, environmental management, advanced energy-saving technologies of extraction and processing of mineral resources.

Mining Museum is a keeper of unique collections. It houses more than 250 thousand exhibits collected from all continents and more than 80 countries. It ranks top three world museums of nature science profile.

The University possesses the richest scientific and technical library which accounts for more than 1.2 mln books and journals including rarities of the XV-XIX centuries, its collection is intensively used by both Russian and foreign scientists. The library is equipped with sophisticated computers and e-catalogues.

The University has modern facilities and well-developed infrastructure, and it allows to hold international events at the highest level.


The Mining University is sensitively responsive to the significant events concerning
mineral resources sector development. The University holds international symposia and conferences, round table discussions and workshops engaging participation of the heads of production branches and the largest native and foreign companies.

The first higher technical institution of Russia – St.Petersburg Mining University has always been and remains the pioneer of the considerable directions of natural resource management: prospecting, exploration, development and processing of all kinds of mineral resources- solid, liquid and gaseous. For two and a half centuries, the University has been contributing to the development of intellectual potential of our society and the country’s economic security.

Multifunctional complex “Gorny”

Forum will take place at Multifunctional complex “Gorny”. A new modern congress hall within the complex contains up to 1 500 seats. It`s an up-to-date venue for various conferences, forums, workshops, plenary sessions, business and other events. Two conference rooms with a capacity for 100 persons are ideal for round-table discussions, video conferences and online business negotiations. There are 13 different rooms for 10 to 70 people in the complex.

All conference rooms and auditoriums are equipped with modern media and technical facilities. Furthermore, for guests of the complex there is a Lobby bar, beautiful Restaurant with 250 seats on the ground floor, and a Fitness Centre.
